The mother of Anubis and sister of Isis, she was also a goddess of death. Not a scary goddess, but rather the natural ending to life. She was benevolent and helped with childbirth and mummification. She was also known as a goddess of darkness, mystery, dreams, and intuition.
She was associated with hawks, specifically, the Egyptian Kite - who the Egyptians associated with the sounds of mourning women at funerals. She was often pictured as having hawk wings, spread protectively.
